  • ~the Hengs are back from Melbourne~

    1. we made it back in one piece, phew!

    2. can't believe 8 days flew by just like that!

i'll prolly need some time to upload my pics as we took about 400  Melbourne is a lovely place, better than the other cities I have been in Australia. Though i'm so over fish n chips, and cafes! Daddy and little K really enjoyed the weather there, i was the one wearing a jacket mostly. K was relatively ok on the flight though she slept very little and we had to entertain her most of the time. its tiring to travel with a tot but the experience is certainly worth it  k enjoyed herself so much and we are proud of her cos she adapted pretty well to the food, weather, time difference, etc.

promise to post up some pics soon!

  • ~the hengs are ill~

i think its really strange how things work out. the hengs went for a flu jab (obviously to prevent ourselves from catching the flu bug) and both daddy and tot fell sick over the weekend, and yes, its the common flu. i asked the doc how can this be, and she told me its becos the jab protects against influenza (the more jialat flu bugs) but not the common flu, duh. so the half-heng aka me, is the last one standing. but, i've been getting this nagging headache that won't go away (must be lack of quality sleep from looking after k). and k was exceptionally moody, grouchy and clingy, which drove my mom and i crazy. she wouldn't stop crying and its a vicious cycle as her nose gets runny, and her throat gets sore

slept about 3 hours last night only. hubby was sneezing and coughing the whole time so i couldn't get to sleep. then i packed my pillow and went to k's room to sleep but alas, she kept waking up to fuss or cry thruout the night as well. if i continue this way, should be my turn next, urgh. not to mention its that time of the month for me (first day was last night, yes this is murphy law working again)

and yet another strange way how things can pan out. i sneaked off to the travel fair at suntec on sun with my mom, with the intention to do a family trip in march and got an sms from my galfren to go HK for our all-gals trip! it works out fine as i realised its very expensive to bring a tot along on packaged tours anyways (k only pays about 10% cheaper than adult fare with no bed - ridiculous right?!?!). so now, at least my "spring break" is taken care of, will do the family vacation prolly in june/july (my next lull period).

and little k is into pretend play now, she's into making tea and coffee these days so i bought her a tea set on sunday to cheer her up. guess how she says her drinks? kopi-O is pronounced as copy-O and tea-si is pronounced tear-C, haha  her ang-moh style hokkien.

  • ~the hengs took the flu jab~

we went to our family doc last evening (erm, actually its k's, hubby's and my folks's doc, i'm was a first-time customer yesterday)  being the kiasu mommy again, wanted all of us to take the flu jab before going to melbourne. quite lucky to find a doc near our home who k likes (she looks forward to all her doc trips) and he was really nice to let her play with his stethoscope while we had a chat (as usual, i always have questions for the doc).

when he asked who should go first for the jab, i immediately offered little k (much to hubby's horror), haha. she's braver than mommy but yesterday she did cry abit after the doc jab her. and she was "angry" wif her fave doc and refused to say byebye to him haha. needless to say, hubby went after that then me. he sprayed some numbing thingy on my arm but still pain loh sigh. and i have been having a splitting headache since this morning wonder if its cos of the jab.

i think we are all set for the trip  just hope it will be an enjoyable one.

  • ~good wholesome vegetarian food~

one of my interns recommended this dining place, Roma Deli, for vegans before she left (cos she's a vegan herself, i nicknamed her new-age xiao meimei) and it was really delicious, fell in love with the food  brought hubby and baby to have dinner there today to try it and little k actually ate her food without complaints. in case u dunno, my little one is almost a vegan as she doesn't eat any meat (and now this includes fish and seafood already) though we still feed her soups with meat stock, sigh.

in a nutshell, i would describe the food served here as vegetarian-italian food. this little restaurant is located at the 1st floor of Shaw Towers, near Ah Yat Seafood & Abalone (err, which we were abit tempted to change our mind for a moment, hee). their speciality is the mushroom soup (a must-try), baked rice and spaghetti. i like my cheeses light and not too much, so the baked rice sits well with me, though cheese lovers may find it a tad dry. its also lactose-free (perfect for my intolerant tummy) and most of the food is organic. the mushroom soup (little k's fave) comes in a generous portion and with buttered bread (but it isn't the fake garlic butter type, organic "herb butter"). i like the fact that they use alot of herbs in their foods so it gives a natural flavour.

we have tried the baked seafood rice, bacon mushroom rice and potato rice (which is my fave of the lot, remember we are still talking vegetarian here). the rice has the texture of basmati rice, and comes with mock meat and veggies (though i must say one dissappointment is that there isn't alot of veg in the rice). cost $10.80 per set meal for dinner - for mushroom soup, main course and an iced drink. lunch sets are cheaper at $6.90, without drinks. if you still have room for desserts there's Tom's homemade ice-cream two doors down. hubby had his good ol' choc ice-cream and he says its yummy  another good point about eating there? discovered that parking is flat fee on weekends at $2, so you can park there and walk over to Suntec City (just cross an overhead bridge). sshssh don't spread the news too wide otherwise next time i go cannot get parking lot liao haha!!

  • ~i've a life again~

finally found sometime to blog this week after a major event  am sure u would have seen my big boss in the news almost everyday for the past 3 days, that's why i'm working so hard  i had to stay over at the event venue over the past few days but managed to sneak home one night to spend some time with little k. she must have noticed that i didn't return home so when she woke up in the morning, she went to straight to my bedroom and asked," where's mommy?", then in the afternoon, after her nap, she went round the house to look for me again. so sweet huh

over the weekend, i bought some stuff for k's party favour bags, and yes its Barney!! so hard to find but eventually found it somewhere which is so near me afterall i.e. Great World City, duh. but they are running really low on stocks so i bought whatever i could get first, still need to get more decor stuff and candies to fill the favour bags. i'm still fretting over the caterers cos i'm sick of my usual ones, so am looking for alternatives. and i managed to find a lovely bakery opened by a friend's friend, so hopefully they can do a customised cake design for my mom.

also, i made my makeover appointment!! the photographer (cum owner) of the studio told me to think of some celebrity to emulate (if i want), but i told him if i did that, will be stopped at airports all over the world!!?!? the main purpose was to shoot nice pics to replace my passport and nric cards but it kinda snowballed (somehow) into a full fledged phototaking session  hubby's paying for it as a bday gift so i thought what-the-heck. i'm hitting the big 3-0 and better to take some shots for "preservation" haha  and on the desired "celebrity", it has to be Heidi Klum for me, which is a tall order!

  • ~congrats on the arrival of baby aidan!~

i heard the good news that baby aidan has arrived!  aidan was one of those names that i shortlisted (had k been a boy) and i'm so happy that one of my bestest fren had chosen the name for the youngest addition to her brood.

we brought k to her great-grandmother's (hubby's side of the family) bday celebration on Sunday. she accidentally hurt herself (i will share that with details in the next para) so was kinda grumpy but at least she managed to make the old matriarch happy by saying," Happy birthday lao ma" heheh  and little k was super happy playing with the other children at the party that she excited remarked with a jump, "all are my frens, yeah!" kinda surprised cos she usually seems quite happy playing on her own, i guess my little girl is growing up and ready to have her own frens.

about the little accident, little k got her ring finger caught in between a folding chair! yes, she hid her hand behind her back so when my mom folded the chair to put it properly for her to sit down, it was stuck in between! and k was the one who said stuck, stuck, then started crying so we realised prolly a few seconds later. my mom panicked and yanked her finger out which was to my horror (yes, i felt my heart drop) as i was afraid it might break her finger  fortunately, her little finger is intact (its the ring finger on her left hand leh, which she might someday wear her wedding ring) just bruised and swollen. aiyo so heart pain i tell u, she cried for quite awhile before we could pacify her to quiet down.

  • ~my loot~

received all my loot from my recent g-market spree  hubby's quite happy with his shirts, and i luv my lingerie sets super pretty!!! my vivienne westwood heels though, are sky high, its one of those lovely but impractical shoes that i can only wear to dinners (without little k). the worrying thing is that my injured foot hurt really badly those i put on my shoes to walk for less than 5 mins (i need to try and sashay about mah when i got it) so i'm guessing my foot's gonna take a longer time to heal completely  i was hoping to get back to heels by december but my recovery doesn't look too good, sobs.

watching F1 concert now, how did gwen stefani get those abs after giving birth? urgh. i still like her, after all these years. i like her sense of style and the way she move with the times, without compromising her own personal style. she should have come as an individual artiste and not with no doubt. and my company was giving out F1 race tickets, told 'em i'm not interested in the race lah, got concert tickets instead? then i kena tsk by everyone, duh. i really dun get the race thing, can't even see the cute drivers anyways and super noisy.

  • ~lovely weekend~

so nice to spend a nice long weekend without having an event or going to work  i brought k out everyday cos i wanted to buy some warm clothes to tog her in melbourne. but she refused to try any of the items so i can only "estimate" by placing it against her body and tiny hands. bought for her a trenchcoat (yes, not a typical winter jacket, heheh), matching gloves (or mittens rather, without the fingers part hee) and a tracksuit. quite hard to find her size cos maybe not many people bring a young tot to cold holidays so i had to get everything in the smallest size. but it was really fun (at least for me cos k's totally disinterested). since i bought her 2 pairs of leg warmers earlier, i think she's all set! now its time for me to start thinking about my leather jacket at uniqlo, hee

since i'm out quite alot with k these days, starting to notice expressions/behaviours of some people who either do not like tots, or are just plain rude. k's a small tot just making her way around the stores and sometimes i get irritated glances from people and i find myself apologising most of the time. its not that she runs around in the store but she may almost bump into people so they have to move to avoid her. another thing is when a curious tot looks at what u are doing, i noticed some people actually give her the what-are-u-looking-at expression  which i think its uncalled for. u don't have to react if you dunno how to, but no need to glare back at her in an unfriendly manner rite? i don't like such negative attitudes to affect k so i usually just move her away quickly and try to explain what the person is doing (to satisfy her curiosity).

but having said that, i also met many nice and gracious people who give way to us and play with k. there are more nice people than meanies i guess, so juz gotta live with it.
