  • ~the Hengs are back from Melbourne~

    1. we made it back in one piece, phew!

    2. can't believe 8 days flew by just like that!

i'll prolly need some time to upload my pics as we took about 400  Melbourne is a lovely place, better than the other cities I have been in Australia. Though i'm so over fish n chips, and cafes! Daddy and little K really enjoyed the weather there, i was the one wearing a jacket mostly. K was relatively ok on the flight though she slept very little and we had to entertain her most of the time. its tiring to travel with a tot but the experience is certainly worth it  k enjoyed herself so much and we are proud of her cos she adapted pretty well to the food, weather, time difference, etc.

promise to post up some pics soon!

  • ~the hengs are ill~

i think its really strange how things work out. the hengs went for a flu jab (obviously to prevent ourselves from catching the flu bug) and both daddy and tot fell sick over the weekend, and yes, its the common flu. i asked the doc how can this be, and she told me its becos the jab protects against influenza (the more jialat flu bugs) but not the common flu, duh. so the half-heng aka me, is the last one standing. but, i've been getting this nagging headache that won't go away (must be lack of quality sleep from looking after k). and k was exceptionally moody, grouchy and clingy, which drove my mom and i crazy. she wouldn't stop crying and its a vicious cycle as her nose gets runny, and her throat gets sore

slept about 3 hours last night only. hubby was sneezing and coughing the whole time so i couldn't get to sleep. then i packed my pillow and went to k's room to sleep but alas, she kept waking up to fuss or cry thruout the night as well. if i continue this way, should be my turn next, urgh. not to mention its that time of the month for me (first day was last night, yes this is murphy law working again)

and yet another strange way how things can pan out. i sneaked off to the travel fair at suntec on sun with my mom, with the intention to do a family trip in march and got an sms from my galfren to go HK for our all-gals trip! it works out fine as i realised its very expensive to bring a tot along on packaged tours anyways (k only pays about 10% cheaper than adult fare with no bed - ridiculous right?!?!). so now, at least my "spring break" is taken care of, will do the family vacation prolly in june/july (my next lull period).

and little k is into pretend play now, she's into making tea and coffee these days so i bought her a tea set on sunday to cheer her up. guess how she says her drinks? kopi-O is pronounced as copy-O and tea-si is pronounced tear-C, haha  her ang-moh style hokkien.

  • ~the hengs took the flu jab~

we went to our family doc last evening (erm, actually its k's, hubby's and my folks's doc, i'm was a first-time customer yesterday)  being the kiasu mommy again, wanted all of us to take the flu jab before going to melbourne. quite lucky to find a doc near our home who k likes (she looks forward to all her doc trips) and he was really nice to let her play with his stethoscope while we had a chat (as usual, i always have questions for the doc).

when he asked who should go first for the jab, i immediately offered little k (much to hubby's horror), haha. she's braver than mommy but yesterday she did cry abit after the doc jab her. and she was "angry" wif her fave doc and refused to say byebye to him haha. needless to say, hubby went after that then me. he sprayed some numbing thingy on my arm but still pain loh sigh. and i have been having a splitting headache since this morning wonder if its cos of the jab.

i think we are all set for the trip  just hope it will be an enjoyable one.

  • ~good wholesome vegetarian food~

one of my interns recommended this dining place, Roma Deli, for vegans before she left (cos she's a vegan herself, i nicknamed her new-age xiao meimei) and it was really delicious, fell in love with the food  brought hubby and baby to have dinner there today to try it and little k actually ate her food without complaints. in case u dunno, my little one is almost a vegan as she doesn't eat any meat (and now this includes fish and seafood already) though we still feed her soups with meat stock, sigh.

in a nutshell, i would describe the food served here as vegetarian-italian food. this little restaurant is located at the 1st floor of Shaw Towers, near Ah Yat Seafood & Abalone (err, which we were abit tempted to change our mind for a moment, hee). their speciality is the mushroom soup (a must-try), baked rice and spaghetti. i like my cheeses light and not too much, so the baked rice sits well with me, though cheese lovers may find it a tad dry. its also lactose-free (perfect for my intolerant tummy) and most of the food is organic. the mushroom soup (little k's fave) comes in a generous portion and with buttered bread (but it isn't the fake garlic butter type, organic "herb butter"). i like the fact that they use alot of herbs in their foods so it gives a natural flavour.

we have tried the baked seafood rice, bacon mushroom rice and potato rice (which is my fave of the lot, remember we are still talking vegetarian here). the rice has the texture of basmati rice, and comes with mock meat and veggies (though i must say one dissappointment is that there isn't alot of veg in the rice). cost $10.80 per set meal for dinner - for mushroom soup, main course and an iced drink. lunch sets are cheaper at $6.90, without drinks. if you still have room for desserts there's Tom's homemade ice-cream two doors down. hubby had his good ol' choc ice-cream and he says its yummy  another good point about eating there? discovered that parking is flat fee on weekends at $2, so you can park there and walk over to Suntec City (just cross an overhead bridge). sshssh don't spread the news too wide otherwise next time i go cannot get parking lot liao haha!!
